Role Overview

Volunteer Life Coaches provide guidance, encouragement, and practical life-skills support to youth in foster care who are ages 17–18 and preparing for adulthood. As a Life Coach, you will walk alongside a young person during a critical transition, helping them build confidence, set goals, and develop the skills they need to thrive as independent adults.

This is a short-term, goal-focused volunteer role designed to complement—not replace case management services.

Key Responsibilities

• • Build a supportive, trusting relationship with a youth preparing to age out of foster care
  • Support youth in developing practical life skills such as:
  • Budgeting and basic financial literacy
  • Job readiness (resumes, interviews, workplace expectations)
  • Time management and organization
  • Self-advocacy and decision-making
  • Offer encouragement, accountability, and positive adult guidance
  • Meet with youth consistently (virtually or in person) based on program expectations
  • Communicate with program staff and document progress as required

Qualifications

• • Must be 25 years or older
  • Compassionate, patient, and dependable
  • Ability to set appropriate boundaries and follow program guidelines

Time Commitment

• • Approximately 8-20 contacts per month (text, call, in-person) – gradually decreasing over time.
  • Commitment of 12 months.

Training & Support

• • Orientation and training provided
  • Ongoing support from program staff
  • Access to tools, resources, and structured goal-setting materials
