Southeast Fire Department

We are making history! The Southeast Fire Department is officially transitioning from a dedicated volunteer organization to a fully paid, full-time department. We are hiring 18 highly motivated Firefighter/Paramedics to staff our fire station 24/7 across three shifts.

Firefighter/Paramedic

The Southeast Fire Department is currently accepting applications for a Paramedic. This position will provide immediate response to 911 calls, as the first healthcare provider at the scene of emergency situations, evaluate these emergencies and provide medical care to the sick and injured, operate and maintain assigned ambulance and station; participate in continuing education and training. This is an "emergency essential" position, requiring you to be available immediately before, during, and after emergency conditions or disasters, to perform duties directly related to the emergency conditions.

Work Performed:

• Provides prehospital medical care during emergency situations to include Basic Life, Advanced Life, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support activities
• Perform triage and a variety of emergency medical treatments at the Basic and Advanced Life support level. Provide continuing care and treatment while enroute to an emergency medical facility; monitor and report changes in patient condition.
• Administers intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and oral medications
• Continually monitor patient condition, changing course of treatment as needed
• Maintains equipment; checks and replaces damaged and used supplies; and cleans the fire station
• Drive the ambulance to emergency scenes, transport accident victims and medical patients to hospitals
• Assist and coordinate with Southeast Fire Department (SVFD) and other emergency service agencies in rescue operations, motor vehicle accidents, and other emergency situations.
• Documents all medical calls and medical treatment provided in ESO Solutions system
• Employ safe lifting and moving techniques
• Exercise functional supervision over lower-level certified partners, PRN personnel, and other providers, as needed
• Handle radio communications during emergency and non-emergency situations professionally
• Receive technical and functional supervision from EMS Management Staff
• Must be able to work shift calendar that includes holidays and weekends
• Must maintain ability to carry out standing orders under the medical director's discretion
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

·       Possession of a Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMTP) certification or Licensed Paramedic (LP) will be subject to verification prior to employment. 

·       American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Certification

·       A valid Texas Driver’s License

Preferred licenses or certifications:

• Southeast will cover the cost of Firefighter certification
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate (ACLS)
• AHA Pediatric Life Support Certification (PALS)
• TCFP Fire Certification

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED supplemented by specialized college level
• A minimum of One (1) year or experience as paramedic in a 911 system
• Possess or acquire within Six (6) months: NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800
• Applicants must pass and complete all phases of the hiring process (physical ability test, interview, background, immunizations, drug screen, medical examination). 
• Immunizations/shot records will be required prior to receiving a job offer.
• Must not have ever been convicted of or received community supervision or probation for a Felony or a Class A Misdemeanor.
• Must qualify and be recertified prior to the end of the TDSHS certification period to remain employed

Skill in:

• Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
• Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature

Ability to:

• Assess and diagnose patients with medical complaints.
• Remain calm and customer focused during highly stressful situations
• Identify mechanical issues with the ambulance and medical equipment
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions
• Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
• Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries

Continuing Educations:

• Must maintain yearly CE hours within current TDSHS guidelines.
• Must exercise professional initiative to stay current with new drugs and treatment procedure guidelines.
• Must maintain the ability to carry out standing orders within the Medical Director's discretion.

Any falsification in the application process will result in disqualification.
