Job Summary Description The Boiler Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the boiler and truck/trailer utilized during Cured in Place Process (CIPP) installation. The role involves driving the boiler and truck/trailer to the work site and operating the boiler to heat lines with water or steam after installation. Essential Job Accountabilities Maintain CDL Class A license; drive the boiler truck/tractor-trailer. Operate associated sewer equipment, generators and power tools; maintain secure control, upkeep and serviceability of assigned equipment. Comply with company safety policies and procedures, DOT regulations, equipment safety specifications and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Conduct pre- and post-operation vehicle and equipment inspections; perform daily operator-level maintenance on boiler, tractor/truck, and report maintenance/service requirements. Assist crew with collective tasks; install site preparation, line installation, and cleanup as directed by the foreman. Perform boiler pre‑fire steps and position the boiler within the constraints of the installation site. Identify the correct curing pressure for the line and follow the curing schedule. Monitor gauges, track temperature/pressure, attend to problems and ensure consistency throughout the curing process. Perform below‑ground confined‑space work; prepare lines for installation and cut curing lines to fit and seal the system. Operate safety equipment; air monitoring, fall protection, retrieval system, traffic management equipment, and PPE. Perform collateral responsibilities as “Top Man”; secure confined‑space permits, lower & retrieve crew members into/from manholes and safeguard crew members conducting below‑ground confined‑space work. Work in outdoor field conditions across all weather and temperature ranges. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities High school education or equivalent preferred. Must possess, or obtain within 90 days of hire, a CDL with HAZMAT endorsements. Experience in construction environment, preferably with water or sewer utilities; trenchless installation technician experience preferred. Ability to conduct physically strenuous work, operate in confined spaces and all weather types. Independent work capability, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills. Ability to read and comprehend maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and safety rules. Ability to understand instructions and perform tasks independently of direct supervision regarding safety procedures, equipment use, maintenance, installation techniques, and crew mobilization to the work site. Mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Flexible working hours and days; must travel out of state regularly. Must pass drug test and criminal history background check, and maintain driver’s license for past 36 months without suspensions or major traffic violations.
